Tom Lubelczyk

Thomas Lubelczyk is an active bassist, composer, and educator in central Massachusetts . He has been heavily involved in music since childhood. At a young age he discovered a passion for composing and performing music and has been committed to the composition and performance of it ever since. Growing up on Cape Cod, he gained valuable experience from many local musicians. Thomas co-founded the group “Smokin' Jackets” while in high school, which among other music was an outlet for many of his compositions. One of the group's highlights was performing in the 1997 New England Jazz Festival with such acclaimed artists as Tito Puente, Chick Corea, and Gary Burton. Upon graduation, he was the first recipient of the Mashpee Night at the Pops Scholarship, later renamed the Donna Lynn Yanoff Memorial Scholarship.

In 1997 Thomas attended the University of Massachusetts at Lowell , where he studied string bass with Mark Henry of the Boston Pops. At this time he began his career in education. Thomas continued his commitment to the composition and performance of original music being involved in many projects stretching across many musical boundaries. In 1998 he was a founding member of the group “The Craft Trio”, an improvisational group that was a strong mix of styles. Other highlights of his college years include performing John Coltrane's A Love Supreme as well as Mike Watt's Contemplating the Engine Room . In 2001 he graduated with a bachelor's degree in music performance.

After relocating to central Mass in late 2001, Thomas departed from “The Craft Trio” which had changed its musical direction from jazz to rock under the new name “Idio Thom”. He decided to refocus his energy on improvisational music as well as his composing, teaching, and freelancing. In 2003 Thomas began the process of forming an ensemble to perform his original compositions, this led to start of The Tom Lubelczyk Quartet. His composition “Abandonment Issues” was published in the Jazz Worcester Real Book. After a number of line up changes and many gigs later the group's roster settled in early 2006 and recently went into the studio to record. May 2006 saw the launch of the band and website AmericanMusicRevolution.com.

In spring 2007 Tom was approached by Worcester guitarist Brendan Keenan about starting an Irish group with vocalist Caitlin Sargent. Tom accepted and the group Fergus was formed. They have been performing regularly ever since and have had the opportunity to perform with many world renowned Irish groups such as Lunasa and Rattle the Boards.
